By2010 it is estimated that orphans will constitute between 9 - 12% of the South African population and there will be a vast increase in child-headed families. 61% of our children live in poverty and 1,6 million children of school-going age are out of school.

The HIV & AIDS pandemic is changing communities and has a major impact on the nature of families. SOS Children's Villages South Africa plays an important role in the identification of orphaned and vulnerable children who would benefit from financial resources and raises much needed support for them. The cost of support one orphan with food, clothing and education amounts to R150 per month.
