Mpumalanga is known as the place of the sun, but in winter that sun hides and the cold chill is harsh to little arms and legs.

Near Nelspruit, in a town called Lydenburg an 85 year old veteran granny called Mrs Meyer knows the devastating effects winter chills can have on the young. To share her comfortable feelings of warmth she hand knitted 100 jerseys for the children at SOS Children's Village Nelspruit.

"This winter our children are once again snuggling up in her beautiful colourful creations," said a co-worker of SOS Children's Villages, Soka Matlala. Since the inception of the village Mrs Meyer has been donating hand knitted jerseys every winter.

For the past three years Mrs Meyer would drive from Lydenburg to Nelspruit every winter to personally deliver her donation, but due to age this year she could not make the annual trip to Nelspruit. The village director took a few of the children from the village to collect the donation. The children spent the afternoon with their "granny" at her cottage and were treated to tea and muffins. As a token of appreciation the children gave Mrs Meyer fresh flowers.

"Thank you Mrs Meyer for warming our little hearts and we wish the Almighty gives you strength to keep to your generosity," said the children.
