SOS Kindergartens
All Villages except the Rustenburg Village have an SOS Kindergarten,
which serves the Village's needs as well as inviting children from the
surrounding communities. The Kindergartens offer quality pre-school
education for children, and prepare them for the routine and structure
of "big school". Skilled teachers have classes of no more than 25
children and follow a structured programme of learning.
Additional community support is provided through the Educare Programme, which offers skills training during holidays to teachers in community creches, assists with purchasing pre-school equipment and also provides scholarships to children from vulnerable families who cannot afford the fees.

| Play is an important part of learning at pre-school level - children learn the skills of sharing, negotiating and resolving conflicts, as well as developing their gross motor skills and building their physical stamina. |

| The Educare Programme
serves a vital function in providing a safe environment for pre-school
children in disadvantaged communities. Through the scholarship
programme, community creches also enable child-headed and
grandparent-headed households to send small children to pre-school,
giving some welcome relief to the caregivers. The skills training that
is offered during school holidays by the SOS Kindergarten teachers also
builds community capacity and enables the creche teachers to offer a
better service. |
