When FIFA President, Sepp Blatter opened the envelope that announced South Africa as the host country of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it was a very significant moment for SOS Children's Villages. FIFA undertook to build 6 new SOS Villages around the world as part of the German 2006 World Cup event, and one of those Villages was built in the 2010 host country. The North West Province was selected because of its lack of infrastructure for orphaned and abandoned children. | The eight new SOS mothers who were
trained from 2005 were good and ready to take on the task of being Mums
to orphaned and abandoned children. Asked about their new roles they
said: 'It will be like they are our own children and we will see to their safety. We will teach the children that we are a family and we need to respect one another. We will be one family.' |

One of the first children at the new Village is little Patrick, he was not even a year old then. He seems delighted with his new home! ![]() Since then, all the houses were furnished and many more children benefit from loving care. We also have a well established Family Strengthening Programme (FSP) and we have 400 beneficiaries where we operate in Tlhabane West Area. |
